Our Week in Review

This is Ms. Tate our student teacher introducing tens and ones using Fruit Loops. We are really enjoying having her in our class and we've learned a lot!

We had a very busy week in second grade. We read nonfiction selections about the desert and other habitats. After reading we spent a great deal of time finding main ideas and supporting details. Be sure to ask your child about how a table is like the main idea and details. With our spelling/phonics we read and built words with inflected endings after changing the base word by doubling the last letter or dropping the e. Language this week was a review over statements and questions. We are also working on our first major story writing piece with brainstorming activities. This week in math we focused on relating addition to subtraction and vice versa. We tested over Topic 3 (subtraction). We began Topic 4 (Place Value) Friday. In science we began our study over habitats. In our Literacy Stations we finished our reading and writing over the Solar System.
I look forward to a busy week full of learning next week!
Below are pictures of our lesson using Fruit Loops to find tens and ones. Learning is always fun when food is involved!
